Introduction

Welcome to BootstrapMaths. This Learning Policy outlines the expectations and guidelines for both tutors and clients engaging with our online tutoring services. By participating in our platform, you agree to adhere to the principles set forth in this policy to ensure a positive and effective learning experience. 

 

Services Overview

BootstrapMaths offers online tuition in STEM subjects, delivered by a vetted team of tutors. Our goal is to provide a supportive and effective learning environment for all students.

 

Tutor Responsibilities 

Tutors are expected to:

  • Maintain Professionalism: Deliver sessions punctually, be sufficiently prepared, and ensure focus on the student’s specific learning objectives. 
  • Provide Accurate Information: Ensure that all content delivered, and personal/professional details shared with BootstrapMaths and the clients are truthful and up to date.
  • Respect Confidentiality: Safeguard all personal information and educational materials related to clients, refraining from unauthorised sharing or discussion. 
  • Restrict Communication: Communicate with the clients solely through the BootstrapMaths managed WhatsApp group chats (with the singular exception of lesson scheduling via email). 
  • Lesson Guidelines: Teach all lessons with microphone and camera on throughout, and ensure all lessons are recorded and stored safely, using appropriate data protection measures. 
  • Lesson Reporting: Provide clear, concise lesson reports after every lesson, including areas covered, improvements, struggles, and future planning. 
  • Safeguarding: Not contact, nor offer/provide services to, any BootstrapMaths client outside of the BootstrapMaths infrastructure whilst engaging/within 6 months of engaging as a Tutor with the BootstrapMaths platform.

 

Client Responsibilities

Clients (students and/or their parents/guardians) are expected to:

  • Ensure a Conductive Learning Environment: Arrange a quiet, well-lit space free from distractions for online sessions, and ensure the student has all equipment required to complete sessions. 
  • Maintain Open Communication: Inform tutors and/or BootstrapMaths Admin of any specific learning needs, goals, or concerns to facilitate tailored support. 
  • Adhere to Lesson Schedule: Be punctual for sessions and provide timely notice for cancellations or rescheduling, as outlined below. 

 

Mutual Expectations

Both Tutors and Clients agree to:

  • Foster a Respectful Atmosphere: Communicate courteously, valuing each other’s time and contributions.
  • Protect Intellectual Property: Use educational materials and session content solely for personal learning purposes, refraining from external distribution. 
  • Provide Feedback: Engage in constructive feedback mechanisms to enhance the quality of our service to our clients. 

 

Payment and Scheduling

  • Payment Processing: Our primary payment method is via GoCardless, typically whereby the client provides a Direct Debit mandate for weekly session payments. 
  • Session Scheduling: Tutors and Clients should mutually agree on session times, adhering to the scheduled appointments and notifying each other promptly of changes. 
  • Cancellation: Clients are expected to provide more than 48 hours prior notice for free cancellation of upcoming sessions.
  • Rescheduling: Clients are expected to provide more than 24 hours prior notice for free rescheduling of upcoming sessions. 
  • Late Notice Amendments: Clients are not eligible for refunds if session amendments are requested with less than 24 hours prior to an upcoming session.

  • Financial Information: Bank details (primarily via GoCardless, set up by the client).
  • Educational Information: Educational needs, grades, predicted grades, learning conditions, school performance.
  • Technical Data: Browser cookies and usage data (opted into or out of by website visitors)
  • Communications: Direct messages via WhatsApp, emails regarding lesson scheduling, and other communications.
  • Lesson Content: Lesson-space recordings for safeguarding purposes.

  • Service Delivery: To provide and manage our tutoring services, including but not limited to lesson scheduling, lesson whiteboard sharing, and session reporting.
  • Communication: To communicate with you regarding lessons, updates, and other relevant information.
  • Marketing: To send marketing information to past and present clients unless opted-out via direct notification. 
  • Data Analysis: To analyse tutoring usage and improve our services.
  • Compliance: To comply with legal obligations.

  • Service Providers: We share necessary information with third parties directly involved in teaching or payment processing.

  • Storage: Lesson recordings are stored on the cloud by your tutor and/or BootstrapMaths Administrators. Bank details are primarily stored with GoCardless (as set up by the client) or are otherwise stored by BootstrapMaths Administrators. 
  • Security Measures: Storage of personal data is password protected and stored in widely recognised services.
  • Data Retention: We retain data with no predefined expiry unless a deletion request is made by the user.

 

Your Data Protection Rights

You have the following rights:

  • Access: Request copies of your personal data.
  • Rectification: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information.
  • Erasure: Request deletion of your personal data.
  • Restriction: Request restriction of processing your data.
  • Objection: Object to the processing of your data.

Do to the nature of our services, we do not perform age verification or impose age restrictions. We strongly encourage parents or guardians to join the shared WhatsApp group chat and read all lesson reports to stay informed about their child’s learning.

Tutors are prohibited from sharing personal information or discussing specifics with other students or other parties. Lesson recordings and whiteboards are retained for safeguarding measures and tutor evaluation, rather than learning improvement.
